To Those Who Struggle On Mother's Day

To Those Who Struggle On Mother's Day

Mother’s Day. It’s a holiday which seems so happy and filled with joy for everybody! On the surface, it’s a simple celebration of motherhood, a day to honour the women who have shaped our lives. This day is meant to be a simple day of love and gratitude, but actually, is anything but simple for so many of us!

Motherhood itself is not a one-size-fits-all journey. It is so layered and deeply personal. The path to becoming a mother, the experience of being a mother, and the complex relationships we hold with our own mothers—these stories don’t fit neatly into a Hallmark card!

So, this is for you.

To the first-time mum, holding a newborn and feeling the same amounts of both love and fear!

To the mum balancing work, home, everything! Feeling overwhelmed and unseen.

To the mum of teenagers, bracing herself for whatever moods the day is going to bring.

To the empty nester, with her babies having flown the nest and finding life suddenly a lot quieter.

To the woman who is hoping and waiting for a child, measuring time constantly, finding each period difficult as it's a sign there's no baby yet.

To those enduring the knackering rollercoaster of fertility treatments—navigating injections, having their blood taken, ultrasounds —I see you.

To the mum who has experienced loss, who hesitates every time she’s asked, “How many children do you have?”

To the birth mum, who made an impossible choice out of love, and thinks of that child every single day.

To the mum who hasn't given birth to their child, but whose love is huge and endless.

To the childfree woman, living her truth despite invasive and unwelcome questions about her choices.

To the woman who had an abortion, honouring her right to choose.

To the adult carrying the weight of a strained or estranged relationship with their mother.

To the person facing their first—or fifth, or tenth—Mother’s Day without their mum, longing for just one more hug, one more conversation, one more moment.

I see you all. Me and team at Tanya Bardo truly acknowledge your experience! Mums are a big focus here at Tanya Bardo. So many people buy our pieces for their mum or for their daughter, and we love that we are a part of so many customer’s relationships in that way, it means so much to us!

Whatever this day brings for you, I hope you find space to honour your journey. You are not alone. You are seen. And you are enough.

Happy Mother’s Day, in whatever way you need it to be. So much love to you all, Tanya xoxo
